  • Overview

    The Affiliate Relations Specialist (AR Specialist) is responsible for providing direction, visibility, program integration, and expanding market access and penetration for NEA MB programs in state and local affiliates within a defined territory.  The AR Specialist connects with members face-to-face and through other direct channels (i.e. mail, email, conferences, conventions and social media) to foster interaction, engagement, participation and revenue growth for NEA Member Benefits.  The Affiliate Relations Specialist must reside in the assigned territory (IL, IN, MN, MI).


    • Develop and manage assigned territory and achieve annual goals.
    • Develop and leverage relationships with key affiliate stakeholders.
    • Educate members, affiliate leaders and staff about NEA MB, programs, services, and value proposition.
    • Track results of engagement with members and affiliates and report to management on a predetermined basis.
    • Continuously explore new ways to connect with members that will result in program participation and revenue growth for the organization.
    • Integrate NEA MB activities into the affiliates and assist in organizing and membership development, strategic planning and professional development.
    • Partner with NEA departments to deliver association programs and services at the national, state, local, and community levels to organize and build coalitions around common interests.
    • Educate business partners on association protocols and policies germane to the affiliates, and provide guidance on how to assist in furthering NEA MB goals.
    • Develop understanding and apply knowledge of legislative, regulatory and legal matters as they relate to the member benefits industry and the interests of your assigned territory.
    • Develop strategies to foster positive change in a local or state affiliate.
    • Develop and apply knowledge of marketing strategies to engage state affiliates in planning membership recruitment and retention programs.
    • Manage the involvement of NEA MB’s business partners in cooperative efforts with and on behalf of the affiliates.
    • Utilize skills in facilitation, problem solving, conflict management, creative and critical thinking, consultation, coaching, presentation and training with leaders, members, affiliates, Member Benefits employees, and business partners.
    • Utilize appropriate interpersonal, oral and written communication and public speaking skills, even in highly stressful situations.
    • Employ strong negotiation and excellent communication and presentation skills.
    • Manage multiple projects and complete accurate work within appropriate timelines in conjunction with the demands of constant travel and multiple priorities.
    • Demonstrate strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize among multiple, diverse, and concurrent activities, as well as work in a team environment. Work independently and take initiative for administrative activities as needed.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships, work collaboratively as part of a team, and interact effectively with diverse clients to achieve positive outcomes.
    • Learn, adapt to, and appropriately use the language of the organization.
    • Take risks by experimenting with new techniques for business growth and new program participation.
    • Develop and exhibit appropriate sensitivity to diversity in all areas of endeavor.


    • Requires a BA/BS degree or 8-10 years of experience with affinity groups and the education marketplaces
    • Strong marketing and/or organizing background desired
    • Demonstrated track record of high productivity and adherence to work standards
    • Knowledge of investment, insurance, and credit products desired
    • Proven experience conducting effective meetings that identify and grow business opportunities
    • Intermediate skill level using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
